Easy Fresh-Milled Whole Wheat Waffles

  • Author: recipes for homemakers
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 large belgium-style waffles 1x

Description

These easy fresh-milled whole wheat waffles are crisp on the outside, soft inside, and made with simple pantry ingredients and freshly milled soft white wheat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 6 tablespoons melted butter (plus more for the waffle iron)
  • 1 1/2 cups soft white wheat berries, freshly milled
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, measure the milk.
  2. Add the eggs and melted butter.
  3. Mill the soft white wheat berries into flour directly on top of the liquid ingredients.
  4. Add the salt, and baking powder.
  5. Stir until well combined.
  6. Let the batter rest for 5-15 minutes while the waffle iron heats. This is to let the fresh milled flour absorb the liquid and thicken.
  7. Preheat and lightly grease the waffle iron.
  8. Pour the batter into the hot waffle iron and cook according to your waffle maker’s instructions until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm.
